    Activity 1

    Rearrange the following sentences in the correct order and put the numbers in the given boxes. One is done for you: 

    (1) Tuffy jumped at the reins. (4)

    (2) The toy clown wanted to be a hero. (1)

    (4) There was a grand race between two wooden horses and carts driven by wooden farmers. (3)

    Activity 2 

    Fill in the blanks with words given in the Help Box. There is one extra word: 

    Tuffy, the toy clown lived in a toyshop. He wished to do something noble. His friend, Timothy, felt that the clown always grumbled. But Tuffy thought that the adventures were always exciting.

    Activity 3

    Answer the following question: 

    “Adventures are always exciting” – Why do you think Tuffy said so?

    Answer: Tuffy thinks adventures are always exciting and it will make other toys take notice of him. 

    Activity 4 

    Write ‘T’ for true and ‘F’ for false statements in the given boxes. Give supporting statements for each of your answers: 

    (a) The farmer called the toy clown silly. [T]

    Supporting Statement: You silly, little clown! 

    (b) Tuffy threw all the water at the farmer.  [F]

    Supporting Statement: He climbed the ladder and threw all the water in at the window. 

    (c) The sailor doll could not cook in peace. [T]

    Supporting Statement: Can’t I cook in peace without you coming and throwing water at me? 

    (d) Three goldfish were swimming in a big bowl of water. [F]

    Activity 5

    Answer the following questions:

    (1) What did Tuffy do when he got upset?

    Answer: When Tuffy got upset, he ran out and sat down in a toy farm wiping his tears.

    (2) How did the toy clown put out the fire?

    Answer: To put out the fire The toy clown put a ladder against the wall of the doll’s house then climbed the ladder and threw all the water in at the window.

    (3) Why was the sailor doll angry? 

    Answer: The sailor doll was angry because Tuffy spoiled his cooking by throwing water through the window when he was making porridge.

    (4) What real adventure did Tuffy find at last?

    Answer: At last Tuffy found that a small doll had fallen into a big bowl of water and he needed to rescue her. Then Tuffy felt that saving the doll would be a real adventure.

    Fill in the chart with information from the text:

    Answer: Tuffy put the little net in the water to rescue the little doll from drowning.

    (b) What made the little doll think that Tuffy was not a hero?

    Answer: Tuffy caught the little doll in a nasty net and spoiled her fun. So she thought that Tuffy was not a hero.

    (c) How was Tuffy released from the police station?

    Answer: Timothy gave the key to Tuffy and he opened the door and escaped.

    (d) Why did Timothy blush?

    Answer: Because Tuffy called Timothy ‘the hero’.

    Write a paragraph in about sixty words on ‘A boat journey’ using the following hints:

    moonlit night —- four friends —- boat on a wide river —- rippling of the water —- dark forest on either side —- thrill of the journey

    A Boat Journey 

      One day, I and my other three friends were wandering in a boat in the Raidak river. It was a moonlit night. The river was very wide. The rippling of the water was very charming in the moonlight. There was a dark forest on either side of the river. There was a mysterious sound all around. We all enjoyed the boat journey very much . It was really a thrilling experience.
