    “Smart Ice Cream” is a lesson of Textbook “Blossom” approved by West Bengal Board of Secondary Education for Students of Class 6. Here all the Activity Questions are done by English teachers.

    ACTIVITY – 1

    Rearrange the following sentences in the correct order and put the numbers in the given boxes:

    1. Last week something bad ahppened. (5)
    2. All the students are not as clever as me. (4)
    3. The narrator decided to find out what was going on. (6)
    4. At the age of three, the narrator won a prize for spelling. (2)
    5. The narrator scored full marks in Math. (1)
    6. The narrator’s friends said that the narrator was a show-off. (3)

    ACTIVITY – 2

    Fill in the blanks with words given in the Help Boxes. (Some extra words are given)

    I was at the top of the class. I knew that I had a sharp brain. Other kids of the class are jealous of me. Last week Jerome beat me. I became sad.

    Answer the following questions:

    Answer: The speaker thought so because Jerome Dadian had been eating Ice- cream the day he got one hundred for math.

    ACTIVITY – 4

    Write “T” for true and “F” for false in the given boxes. Give supporting statements for each of your answers:

    a. Mr. Peppy sold Ice Creams of only one flavor. (F)

    Supporting Statement: He sold ice cream of all different types.

    b. The ice cream man was very unkind. (F)

    Supporting Statement: He was too soft – hearted.

    c. The purple ice cream had no effect on the boy. (F)

    Supporting Statement: He gave a purple ice cream to a boy with pimples, and his pimple was cursed!

    d. The speaker believed that there was no other boy smarter than him in school. (T)

    ACTIVITY – 5 

    Answer the following questions in complete sentences:

    a. What did Mr. Peppi sell?

    Answer: Mr. Peppi sold ice cream, of all different types.

    b. How did the speaker know that Mr. Peppi was a soft-hearted person?

    Answer: Mr. Peppi was always giving free ice cream to kids who had no money. The speaker noticed that and thus he knew that he was a soft treated person.

    c. What was special about the green ice cream?

    Answer: The green ice cream had the ability to make a long nose normal.

    d. Why did the speaker want to do better than everyone else in the class?

    Answer: The speaker considered himself the smartest kid in the class. As a result he wanted to do better than everyone else in the class.

    Answer the following questions in complete sentences:

    a. What did the speaker find inside Mr. Peppi’s ice cream van?

    Answer: The speaker found many types of Ice cream in Mr. Peppi’s Ice cream van. There were apple and banana, cherry and mango, blackberry and watermelon and about fifty other flavours.

    b. What secret about Dadian did the speaker come to know?

    Answer: The speaker came to know about Dadian’s secret that he had been eating smart ice cream, thus he got one hundred for maths.

    c. Rewrite the last paragraph in normal English with correct spellings.

    Answer: It is the next day now. Something is happening to me. I don’t feel quite as smart. I have been trying to do a real hard sum. It is on and one. What do one and one make? Is it three or is it four?

    d. Why do you think there are peculiar spellings in the last paragraph? Give reasons for your answer.

    Answer: The speaker was quite smart already. Still he ate smart ice cream out of jealousy. But the ice cream made him foolish. For this reason he made the peculiar spellings in the last paragraph.

    ACTIVITY– 8 (a)

    Now underline in the following sentences the words which connect the sentences to the previous cost.

    1. I put some sand that I carried with me into every bin in the van, except for the smart ice cream. Next I looked at the smart ice cream.
    2. Dadian had been eating smart ice cream; that’s how he got one hundred for Mahts. Thereafter, I decided to finish off the matter.

    ACTIVITY – 8 (b)

    Using the linkers from the Help Boxes, fill in the blanks:

    ACTIVITY – 9

    Make meaningful sentences of your own with the following words:

    Crept: He crept into the cave for the third time.

    Secret: Don’t tell him any secrets.

    Special: My family is always very special to me.

    Decided: I have decided to buy this book.

    ACTIVITY– 10 (a)

    Using the following hints write a story in about sixty words:

    A hare boasts how he can run fast _ teases tortoise for his slow speed _ both run a race_ hare sees tortoise far behind – falls asleep midway_ wakes up to see tortoise much ahead_ hare’s last leap too late_ tortoise beats him.

    Answer:

    A Hare and a Tortoise

    A hare boasts that he can run very fast. One day he teases the tortoise for his slow speed. The tortoise takes it very badly. So they decided to organize a race -competition between them. During the race the hare sees the tortoise far behind. So he stopped and sat down under a tree to take a rest. He falls asleep midway. But the tortoise was going steadily. When the hare woke up he saw the tortoise much ahead of him. The hare’s last leap was too late. The tortoise beats him at last.

    ACTIVITY– 10 (b)

    You have all seen an ice cream peddler pushing his cart either in front of your house or school. Write a paragraph in about sixty words on what you think he does after he has finished selling all his ice creams.

    Answer: All day long, after selling all his ice cream, he thinks about the profit. He will count money and go to the market. He will buy all the required things for his family. If he has children, he will buy toys for them. He will buy some sweets. After that he will return home. The children will enjoy seeing him.
