“Mowgli Among the Wolves” is a lesson of Textbook “Blossom” approved by West Bengal Board of Secondary Education for the Students of Class 7. Here all the Activity Questions are done by English teachers.

Answer: The animals are scared of the jackal Tabaqui because the jackal is more apt to go mad than any other animal in the jungle. A mad jackal runs through the forest biting everything in his way. And the bitten animal also gets mad.
(c) What was the ‘law of the jungle’ ?
Answer: The law of the jungle was that Sher Khan had no right to change his quarters without due warning.
(d) Why was Father Wolf angry on hearing the loud roar of the tiger?
Answer: Father Wolf was angry to hear the loud roar of the tiger because such a noisy roar was not helpful for hunting a buck.

(c) Where were the parents of the ‘man cub’ ?
Answer: Sher Khan attacked his family . His parents ran away to save their lives leaving the little boy behind.
(d) Why did Sher Khan come to the wolves ?
Answer: Sher Khan came to the den of wolves because a man’s cub went that way and he was searching for him.
Who was Akela? Give a description of Akela.
Answer: Akela was the leader of the wolves. He was gray in colour and was very strong and cunning.
(f) Why do you think Akela wanted the ‘man cub’ to be in the wolf family?
Answer: Because from the beginning Akela never opposed the proposal, then he said that they are wise, may be one day that cub will help them.

Write a story [ in about 80 words ] using the following points. Give a title to the story:

Once a Hare and tortoise lived in a forest. The hare was very proud of his fast speed. He made fun of the tortoise for his slow speed. The hare challenged the tortoise to have a race with him. The hare accepted the challenge. The race started. The hare ran very fast. The tortoise was left far behind. The hare stopped to rest under a tree. He fell asleep.
The tortoise passed him and reached the winning post first. The hare woke up and ran as fast as he could. He saw that the tortoise was already at the winning post. He lost the race.
Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.
Activity 17
Suppose you have visited the zoo with your parents. Write a letter to your friend telling him/her about the experience in the zoo. You can use the following hints:

My dear Bhaskar,
You will be very glad to know that I went to visit the Alipore Zoo along with my parents on Sunday last. Here I would like to give you a brief description of our visit to the zoo. We decided to visit the zoo by bus. We started our journey early in the morning. After reaching there, we stood in a queue or line for about an hour to buy tickets. After getting tickets we entered the zoo through the gate.
When we were inside, we saw a totally different world. First, we visited the area where there were zebras. Then we saw different types of birds and deer. After that, we went to see the tigers and lions. There they were pacing up and down with gestures. They were growling and roaring. Then we went to see the Reptile House. Next, we saw the snakes and crocodiles there. We also saw camels, bears, migratory birds, geese, and peacocks in the zoo. We were very delighted to see the monkeys doing their tricks. Then, we visited the parrots and tried to talk to them. Before coming out, we had tea and refreshment.
Really, it was a very pleasant and interesting visit to the zoo. We all enjoyed it a lot. The happy experience is in my heart till now and will remain for a long time in the future. I wish you were with us.
